Pull up a chair and transport yourself to Prohibition era New Orleans. Dr. Daylight’s Jazz Co. breathes new life into traditional jazz favorites and transforms "pop" songs into jazz standards.
Since forming in 2018, the Company has experienced steady growth with a self-titled debut album of 12 songs traversing multiple genres with a jazz twist, from “Hotel California” to the American Songbook standard, “On the Sunny Side of the Street.” The song list even includes original compositions by bandleader Jake Spinella: “Second Line Snort” and” Boudoir Blues.” The album combines the niche jazz enthusiast with a top 40 listener, creating an inventive and unique musical experience.
Their latest release titled Potluck showcases an evolved sound; rich with brass, rhythm, and special arrangements crafted for the guest vocalists. Recorded at Piety Street Records in May 2021, the Company remains largely influenced by the great pianists of the era: Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Count Basie, the songs are reminiscent of traditional jazz associations. Arrangements don’t stick with the “rules” of the genre - reconstructing ideas from the Romantic era and even early NOLA funk into 20’s renditions.
Potluck is out now on all digital platforms for purchase and streaming.
"‘Louisiana Fairy Tale‘ (feat. Rob Pate) from the wonderfully exciting Lafayette, Louisiana-based indie jazz group Dr. Daylight’s Jazz Company, is a fine song that brings you back to the good old days, Sung with so much grace as you feel the amazing band who have celebrated this fine Fats Waller sung classic from 1935, into their own. A monumental feat which needs to be admired, as they continue to bless us with real gems." - A&R Factory
"Spicing up the energy with "Mess Around (feat. Ray Boudreaux)," this song offers all the life and passion we need from jazz music, especially as Ray Boudreaux's uplifting and soulful vocal portrayal continues serenading us alongside Dr. Daylight's Jazz Co.'s groovy instrumentals." - BuzzMusic
